Frequently Asked Questions About Giving to IFAS
Here are answers to some common questions about how we handle gifts to IFAS via the UF Foundation:
How do I make a gift?
Make checks payable to UF Foundation, Inc. and designate which unit or program you want to support. Mail to UF Foundation, Inc., Gift Processing, P.O. Box 14425, Gainesville, FL 32604-2425.
Or you can make a gift online at

Who handles my gift?
A gift made to IFAS is sent to the UF Foundation for immediate deposit. UFF sends you a receipt/gift acknowledgement as soon as your gift has been received. Save this receipt for your tax records.
What if I receive goods or services in connection with my gift?
The IRS requires that we inform you, via your gift receipt/acknowledgement, of the value of any goods or services you may have received along with the resulting value of your contribution.
What do you do with my gift?
The foundation maintains more than 3,200 separate funds that hold gift money. Your gift may be placed in an established fund, which is administered by an IFAS fund administrator (a staff or faculty member), or your gift may be used to establish a new fund that will accomplish your wishes.
Can I give something besides cash?
The foundation is equipped to handle many types of noncash gifts. These include:
- Publicly traded securities - The value of your stock gift depends upon market value at the time the gift is made.
- Real property - The foundation accepts gifts of real estate, i.e., land, farms, ranches, etc.
- Personal property - The foundation accepts gifts of personal property such as books, artwork, computers, animals, supplies, boats, tractors, vehicles, etc.
- Memorial or honorary contributions - You may wish to make a gift in honor of a special individual. We will notify him or her or the family of your generosity.
- Wills and trusts - We have charitable gift experts who can assist you and your advisers to plan a bequest, establish a charitable trust or fund a gift annuity that benefits you, your heirs and IFAS.
- Corporate matching gifts - Many employers will match gifts from their employees to IFAS. You can double or even triple your gift using a corporate match.
Is there any other way to enhance my gift to IFAS?
The state of Florida was one of the first in the nation to establish a program that matches gifts to its state universities. Gifts for academic endowments of $100,000 or more may be eligible for state matching funds as are gifts for renovation or construction of academic facilities.
What if I'm a faculty or staff member of IFAS?
Faculty and staff members may make charitable contributions to any fund at the foundation as any other donor, or through payroll deduction. Please contact your department's personnel director for assistance.
Gifts in lieu of honoraria
As a faculty member, you may endorse your honoraria checks to the UF Foundation as a gift from you.
If you have other questions about your gift support or would like further information, please contact the IFAS Development Office.
